Henna Aftercare
- Keep the paste on your skin for as long as possible ( I recommend 6-12 hours for the best results). Let the paste fall off on it's own, or if you need to, scrape it off with a fingernail (DO NOT use water to wash it off!)
- Apply Melanie's "Henna Potion" regularly to the paste to help it stick to the skin and create a darker stain. Or, use lemon juice mixed with sugar and spray or lightly dab it over the design with a cotton ball/pad at regular intervals. You can also gently steam your design for a darker stain (henna loves heat!).
- Once the paste has come off, make sure to waterproof your design EVERYDAY with a heavy, natural oil (olive oil, almond oil, jojoba oil are ideal. In a pinch you can use baby oil, vaseline or even chapstick) before showering or swimming. Pat area dry very gently.
Your henna design will appear light orange in color at first, but will darken to its full hue about 48 hours later. So if you want henna for a special occasion, having it applied two or three days before you want to show it off is ideal.
The stain will gradually fade over 7-21 days (time varies depending on what area of the body, your personal skin type, and how diligent you are with aftercare)
Remember: for the best results, avoid water (especially soaking) and rubbing. The warmer, dryer and more exposed you design stays, the longer it will last. Moisturizing is fine.
Enjoy!
